Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Assessments by AQF/Certificate Level
Under the Standards for RTOs, all VET Students are required to complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Skills assessment as part of their enrolment process.
The LLN assessment is designed to determine Students' current LLN skills and, in turn, their readiness to undertake the intended VET program, or to otherwise identify what additional support they may need to undertake the course (which could be interpreted as their LLN skills gap).
In worst cases, the assessment might flag that the Student is not ready to undertake the VET program (that is, if the support needs are greater than what the school can realistically or reasonably provide) and may need specific pathways counselling or advice.
Please note that:
-
An LLN assessment must be completed for the specific AQF level (certificate level) of the course in which the Student is enrolling (i.e., Cert I, Cert II, or Cert III).
-
If a Student has already completed an LLN assessment via a previous enrolment with IVET (for example, a Certificate II), they will not have to complete the LLN assessment again if enrolling into the same or lower AQF level (Certificate I or II in this example).
- If a Student has previously completed an LLN assessment for a lower level qualification (for example Certificate I or Certificate II) and is enrolling into a higher qualification (Certificate III in this example), they will be required to complete another LLN assessment at the higher AQF level.
